Building AANHPI worker power since 1992. The first and only national organization of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander workers — 22+ chapters, 1.1 million AANHPI union members strong.
Founded in 1992, the Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance (APALA), AFL-CIO is the first and only national organization of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) workers.
Backed with strong support of the AFL-CIO, APALA has more than 22 chapters across the country and a national office in Washington, D.C. From the garment shops of Manhattan and Los Angeles, to the hotels of Las Vegas and Honolulu, to the longshore docks of the West Coast and the tech workplaces of Silicon Valley — APALA is where AANHPI workers find their power.
When APALA was founded, there were roughly 200,000 AANHPI workers in U.S. unions. Today there are 1.1 million — and APALA’s organizing, education, and movement-building is a big part of why.
