Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are

Labor Education (laboreducation.org) is a worker education platform operated by Bradshaw Solutions, based in Memphis, Tennessee. We provide free educational resources, training, and a directory of labor unions to help workers understand their rights and connect with organized labor. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the minimum data needed to operate the platform. You can use most of the site anonymously.

Automatically collected (anonymous):

  • Anonymous visitor ID (stored in your browser's localStorage) used to track quiz progress and unique visitor counts
  • Page views, device type (mobile/desktop/tablet), and approximate time of visit
  • Which unions and articles you click on, for aggregate popularity statistics
  • Quiz attempts, scores, and module completions tied to the anonymous visitor ID

Provided by you (only if you choose):

  • Name & email: When you generate a certificate, sign a pledge (e.g., The South Got Something to Say), apply for a scholarship, or submit a contact form
  • ZIP code & role: Optional pledge fields to track movement reach
  • Chat messages: Conversations with our AI assistant ("Ask President Bradshaw") are stored to improve responses
  • Photos & files: Only if you upload to the gallery or grant signature pages

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To generate certificates with your name
  • To track your progress through quizzes, training modules, and the construction simulator
  • To improve content based on which pages and unions are most popular
  • To send you the resources you specifically requested (e.g., scholarship confirmations, press kits, pledge receipts) via email
  • To respond to questions you submit through contact forms
  • To monitor and improve AI chat responses

4. What We DO NOT Do

  • We do not sell your data. Ever. Not to advertisers, employers, recruiters, or data brokers.
  • We do not require you to create an account to use the platform
  • We do not use third-party advertising trackers or retargeting pixels
  • We do not share signed pledge information with employers
  • We do not use your data to train external AI models

5. Third-Party Services

We use a small number of trusted vendors strictly to operate the platform:

  • MongoDB Atlas — Database hosting for visitor records, pledges, and quiz results
  • OpenAI / Anthropic / Google (via Emergent) — Powers the AI chat assistant. Messages are sent to these providers to generate responses. Do not share confidential information in chat.
  • SendGrid — Sends transactional emails (certificates, pledge confirmations, scholarship updates)
  • Emergent — Hosts and deploys the application

These vendors have their own privacy practices. We share only the data necessary for each service to function.

6. Cookies & Local Storage

We use browser localStorage (not third-party cookies) to remember:

  • Your anonymous visitor ID
  • Your language preference
  • Quiz progress and module completions
  • Whether you've dismissed the "Install App" banner

You can clear this data anytime through your browser settings — note that this will also reset your quiz progress.

7. Children's Privacy

The Youth Library and arcade games are designed for educational use by minors and contain no personal data collection beyond anonymous progress tracking. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted personal information (such as in a contact form), email us at the address below and we will promptly delete it.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct — ask us to fix inaccurate data
  • Delete — request deletion of your data (see below)
  • Withdraw consent — opt out of emails using the unsubscribe link, or stop submitting forms
  • Portability — request a copy of data you've submitted in a common format

Request Data Deletion

Visit /delete-my-data or email us at the address below. We will delete your records within 30 days.

9. Data Retention

We retain personal data only as long as needed to provide our services. Anonymous analytics may be retained indefinitely in aggregate form. Certificate and quiz records are kept so you can re-download your certificate. Pledge signatures are retained as long as the movement is active. Email logs are kept for 12 months. You can request earlier deletion at any time.

10. Security

We use HTTPS encryption for all traffic, store data in a managed MongoDB Atlas database with access controls, and limit administrative access. However, no internet transmission is 100% secure. If you discover a vulnerability, please report it responsibly to the email below.

11. AI Chat Disclosure

Our AI assistant ("Ask President Bradshaw" / Union Corso) is powered by large language models from third-party AI providers. AI responses are generated automatically and may occasionally be inaccurate. Do not share sensitive personal information, employer details, or anything you would not want stored. AI conversations are logged for quality improvement.

12. California & Other State Privacy Rights

If you are a California resident, you have specific rights under the CCPA, including the right to know what data we collect and the right to opt out of any sale of personal information (we do not sell data). Residents of Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, and other states with privacy laws have similar rights. Contact us using the information below to exercise any of these rights.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last Updated" date at the top will reflect any changes. Material changes will be announced on the homepage. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
