Standing strong for working families
Powering · Labor Education
Former Executive Director of AFSCME Local 1733 — the union of the 1968 Memphis Sanitation Strikers — now organizing with CWA International and CWA Local 3866. Four decades of standing with workers, service on numerous boards, and many awards for leadership, service, and excellence. And still on the line.

"Gail has been my big sister in this labor movement. When I was finding my footing, she had already walked the road — and she made sure I never walked it alone. Forty years of her life given to working people. That's not a career. That's a calling."
— Kevin Bradshaw, President, Memphis CLC · Founder of Labor Education
Alongside her sister in the struggle, Rose Turner of UFCW 1529.

“They are risking their lives daily… To not compensate them for their sacrifices is unacceptable.”
— Gail Tyree, fighting for Memphis city employees as AFSCME 1733 Executive Director
Leading Local 1733 means carrying the legacy of 1968 — the sanitation strikers whose stand brought Dr. King to Memphis. Gail led that house through a pandemic, then took the fight to new frontiers with CWA.
