Organizing Your Workplace

A step-by-step guide to forming a union at your job. Follow these 6 steps.

Step 1 of 6
Build Your Committee

Start by finding coworkers who share your concerns. You need a core group of trusted leaders from every department and shift.

Key Actions:

  • Identify natural leaders — people coworkers already go to with problems
  • Start with one-on-one conversations, NOT group meetings
  • Aim for a committee representing every department, shift, and demographic
  • Keep it confidential — don't announce your efforts to management
  • Build a list of ALL employees with their contact info

Watch Out

Never use company email, phones, or computers for organizing. Use personal devices only.

Goal for this step:

Organizing committee of at least 10% of the workforce before moving to the next step.
