Steel, aluminum, mining, paper, oil, glass, rubber, chemicals, atomic, and health care — across the U.S., Canada, and the Caribbean.
The United Steelworkers is the largest industrial union in North America — 850,000 active members across the U.S., Canada, and the Caribbean. Founded in 1942 as the CIO’s flagship union, USW today represents workers in steel, aluminum, paper, mining, oil refining, atomic, rubber, chemicals, glass, manufacturing, and health care.
USW merged with PACE in 2005 to form today’s union — one of the most diverse industrial unions in the world, with members ranging from steelworkers in Gary, Indiana, to oil-refinery workers on the Gulf Coast, to atomic-sector workers at former uranium enrichment sites, to nurses, EMTs, and child-care workers.
USW is headquartered in Pittsburgh and is led by President Roxanne Brown — the 10th International President and the first woman and first Black woman to lead the union.
